CLEANER PRODUCTION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THE TEXTILE COMPANY LEVITEX, SLOVAK REPUBLIC

The Slovak Cleaner Production Center carried out a Cleaner Production Assessment at the textile company LEVITEX. Most of proposed measures had a very short payback period. In addition to more efficient production processes, the benefits consist of electricity and natural gas savings, and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. The project was carried out in close collaboration with Levitex engineers and it improved teamwork, working methods and the management of processes.

PIUS - CHECK - SUCCESS IN CLEANER PRODUCTION FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED ENTERPRISES (SMEs), GERMANY

The Effizienz-Agentur NRW (EFA) shows forward-looking SMEs the potential benefits offered by cleaner production. With the PIUS-Check, EFA provides companies with up to 500 employees in North Rhine-Westphalia with a tried and tested instrument for the development of new business opportunities. With the check, the relevant material flows and current levels of production technology are recorded and possible improvements in production are illustrated.

THE LAUNDRY - OFFICE PAPER RECYCLING, UK

In 2002 BioRegional initiated a kerbside paper collection scheme which aimed to address the main barriers to increasing office paper recycling in central city locations. The Laundry service has opened up recycling possibilities to smaller offices that were previously unable to recycle, as paper collectors asked for several bags to be filled before they would make a collection – small offices simply didn’t have the storage space.

CLEANER PRODUCTION ASSESSMENT AT LAVA FLASH, PERU

A team of industrial and mechanical engineering students with its professor carried out a cleaner production assessment at the industrial laundry Lava Flash. During the project the team observed that, due to its nature, the plant’s production process consumes a great deal of chemicals that are not used in an efficient way. By implementing the proposed actions, the production plant will benefit in terms of health and safety, as there are lots of possibilities for improvement with low investment.

STARFORT, ITALY

Wood-cutting machines are used to cut firewood in agriculture and forestry, but also in private households. Each such machine contains several litres of hydraulic oil. A type of log splitters from Starfort run on water instead of oil hydraulics.
