8th LCS-RNet Annual Meeting in Wuppertal, Germany
The 8th Annual Meeting of the LCS-RNet will take place from 6 – 7 September 2016 at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany. The event aims to discuss decarbonision concepts and their financial instruments while also generating useful impulses for German climate politics and contributing to a beneficial framework for a global energy transition.
The 2016 annual meeting is of particular importance in the context of the follow-up to the COP21 in Paris, as well as the G7 meeting in Elmau, G7 EMM in Toyama and in the preparation process for the IPCC’s AR6. It will contribute to setting the global transformation agenda towards full decarbonisation and particularly discuss the future role of science.
The meeting will address:
- How to trigger the non-linear transformation towards full decarbonisation (by2050) as targeted by G7 (Elmau) COP21 (Paris) and G7EMM (Toyama)
- How a “new deal” for green growth could be designed and achieved
- How to explore and exploit the synergies between the Sustainable Development Goals and low carbon societies
- The new role of science in the context of the SDGs and climate policy after Paris
The LCS-RNet (Low Carbon Society Research Network) was established in 2008 by the G8 Conference of Environmental Ministers and comprises independent scientific institutions, whereby Germany is represented by the Wuppertal Institute. The network aims at generating recommendations for the development towards a low-carbon society as well as supporting the exchange between industrial and emerging countries.
