Productive Use of Wind in Argentina - Developing Rural Areas with an Abundant Resource

The main objective of this project is to implement three pilots based on Piggott small wind turbines for rural productive use. In collaboration with the community, and supported by Wind Empowerment (WE), appropriate productive uses and potential benefits will be explored. The very varied contexts of the three target regions in terms of their different economic activities will provide a wide span of potential productive uses. Monthly visits of three to five days will be made to allow enough time for diagnostics and exchange with the community.

Feedback will be provided to WE delivery models regarding applicable productive uses, to the WE maintenance project regarding evaluation of main problems at sites, and to the WE market assessment project regarding evaluation of the specific case of Argentina. All members of the network will be informed about the results and conclusions of the pilot and other potential projects.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • To generate methodologies for implementing such projects;
  • To perform market assessment studies to evaluate the most appropriate technology and its impact;
  • To evaluate and monitor three previously installed wind systems;
  • To build and install Pigott wind turbines in co-operation with the local community for a selected productive use.
The project involves different local players such as rural schools, cooperatives, beneficiaries, technical schools etc., all of whom aim to increase the levels of productive activities in rural areas.
