The transdisciplinary (TD) training is a cooperation between TUAAN, Tribhuvan University Kathmandu Nepal and the WISIONS Innovation Lab Nepal. The Innovation Lab (IL) is a transformative research approach developed by the Wuppertal Institute that seeks to integrate sustainability research into multi-stakeholder processes aiming at catalyzing systemic change.
What is the transdisciplinary seminar about?
Within the context of the IL Nepal, the TD Seminar aims at fostering the entanglement of disciplinary knowledge and skills within the design, realization and evaluation of transformation-oriented interventions comprised by the IL.
Who can participate?
Students in advanced courses of Masters or Doctoral programs can apply for this event through this application form. Applicants should provide their contact details, a short motivation letter (limited to 800 characters) and an outline of a research topic of interest (limited to 2.600 characters). 25 students will be selected to participate in the TD Seminar.
The selection of students will be based on a balanced distribution of disciplines: Humanities, social and political sciences, economics, engineering and environmental/natural sciences. The seminar will be held in English.
When?
The TD seminar will take place between the 3rd and the 5th of October, 2023.
What have we planned for you?
The TD seminar comprises 3 full days:
Day 1 → The first day will lay out the theoretical foundation of transdisciplinary research, basic concept and methods.
Day 2 → The second day of the training comprises the participation of the trainees in the Transdisciplinary Conference “Peak Perspectives: Navigating Challenges and Shaping Sustainable Futures in Nepal’s Mountain Landscapes” (by being accepted in this TD seminar you will be automatically registered to the conference).
Day 3 → The third day of the TD seminar contains several group work sessions, in which the trainees will apply the concepts, methods and knowledge gathered during day 1 and 2 of the TD seminar by designing TD research cases that address their own research interest.

Day 1 and 3 – Center for Energy Studies – Institute of Engineering (Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu).
Day 2 – in Kathmandu valley (the venue of the conference will be announced soon).
