Concrete Turbine Manual video from our partners at Janathakshan
Our partners at Janathakshan in Sri Lanka have made a video to describe their low-cost, easy to assemble pico-hydro concrete turbine. As of February 2014, this turbine has been deployed in 45 Sri Lankan villages, of which over 85% are still functional.
The casing for this turbine is built from concrete, while the runner is constructed from aluminium and fibre glass. The turbine efficiency is about 70% and it possesses a number of advantages over its steel counterparts.
In order to share their micro-hydro technology, Janathakshan have made a video demonstrating the steps required to build the concrete turbine. It does not provide all the details, but gives a good overview of the system.
