The Integrated Research and Action for Development, India (IRADE), demonstrated a business model for production and commercialitation of biofuels at village level. The project took place in three neighbouring villages of the Haryana state and comprised the extraction of straight vegetable oil from Jathropa seeds and its commercialisation in the region, mainly for stationary applications. Capacity building activities were performed in order for the villagers to be able to manage their own biofuel micro-enterprise. The project tried to trigger the development of decentralized biofuel extraction business in rural areas of India and therewith, improve the welfare of villagers.
