UNEP CCC Webinar: Solar Irrigation in Sub-Saharan Africa

Our team member Sophia Schneider will host an upcoming webinar in close collaboration with the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre and the SESA incubator programme.

Solar-powered irrigation is crucial for improving water access in Sub-Saharan Africa, where smallholder farmers produce 80% of the region’s food, relying on erratic rainfall. With 90% of cropland dependent on rainfall, sustainable irrigation systems are essential for improving productivity and resilience.

Despite its potential, solar irrigation faces challenges like market penetration, low farmer awareness, and financial sustainability. This webinar, part of the SESA incubator program, facilitates a peer-to-peer exchange where entrepreneurs can their challenges and how they deal with them in an innovative way.
