The implementation of technologies for food processing and conservation using solar energy can help reduce poverty, create local economic opportunities, improve health conditions, while reducing environmental damage. In countries with high solar radiation potentials solar technologies can assist the sustainable development of rural communities. However, the full potential of solar food processing technologies is yet to be explored. In this project the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) established a global network of interested parties (NGO's, politicians, farmers, cooperatives and experts), to gather information and knowledge for the further development and promotion of efficient methods for solar food processing and conservation. An internet platform for solarfood has been established to assist the network where participating projects are presented and information is exchanged. Phase II and III of the projects have also been supported under SEPS.
