SEPS News: Micro-Hydro Power in Kaghan Valley, Pakistan
The SEPS project “Supporting creation and expansion of energy SMEs for sustaining access to energy and livelihood in mountainous areas of Kaghan, Pakistan“ has started with the beginning of spring season in the valley. Now, the melting snow opened the way to the site where there micro-hydro unit is supposed to be installed.
T-PAK, the local partner, has now started civil work at the site. It is located in a rugged mountain area and access remains difficult, which means that construction material can only be carried by people. A track is available from Naran to the site from where the material has to be transported by workers for about 100 meters.
The project aims to install a micro-hydro power unit with a capacity of 40KW to generate electricity in a touristic mountain area in Northern Pakistan which suffers from frequent blackouts of the national grid.
