Solar energy for fish refrigeration in Colombia
Fishing is one of the main economic activities of the Wayuu communities living on the shores of the Caribbean Sea in the High Guajira in Colombia. One month ago, Solaris had their first approach towards the community and local authorities, introducing their fish refrigeration project.
They conducted a survey about fishing techniques and the amount of fish that local people are gathering on a regular basis. As this survey proved to be of no real use, Solaris decided to accompany local fishermen the next day on their fishing boat.
They laid out the fishing nets and collected around 20 fish later, of which they sold the large ones and gave the medium ones to the fishing community, thus avoiding waste.
Subsequently, Solaris prospected for a possible site that would suit best the installation of refrigerators and solar panels.
