Increasing Resilience of Mountain Communities – Insights from our Workshop

As Nepal faces increasing threats from climate change, Micro Hydropower (MHPs) systems, which have the potential to stabilize the national grid and enhancing the resilience of the country’s power infrastructure, are particularly vulnerable. They are increasingly threatened by floods and natural disasters. Bioengineering practices using locally available resources provide low-cost solutions to bolster resilience against these environmental challenges.

As part of our Innovation Lab Nepal Project, we organized a multi-day training workshop for nearly 30 participants in Tatopani-3, District of Jumla. The training featured hands-on sessions on bioengineering practices and enterprise development, empowering participants with the skills needed to protect their communities and enhance local livelihoods.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Understanding legal procedures for enterprise registration
  • Addressing gender-specific challenges for women entrepreneurs
  • Identifying local products with potential for business ventures
  • Creating small-scale civil engineering structures
  • Utilizing vegetative engineering methods
  • Selecting suitable plant species for bioengineering projects

A special thanks to our local partner organizations Winrock International, PEEDA, and RecoftC Nepal for making these workshops possible!
